Besides a pristine look for elegant entertaining, the kitchen required an open plan with preparation space for two cooks and a seat for every friend. The new space materialized by opening the wall to the dining room and incorporating an unused den as part of the kitchen.
The expansion led to a sizeable dining table, which seats twenty guests; and a boot-shaped island region, which facilitates all traffic flow. Two working kitchen triangles are interlocking for dual prep areas: one uses refrigerator drawers for vegetables, main sink, and range. The other utilizes the original refrigerator, prep sink and oven area. Ample countertop surface, in “Ming Green” granite, holds all food during prep or buffet serving. Guests can sit by the island and enjoy the fireplace.
Fully functional and elegantly entertaining, the open plan kitchen offers good party times.
