Paying respect to the Ancient Chinese principles of Feng-Shui and inviting good fortune to their home, was the client’s objective. Elina took it to the drafting table.

The blueprint pays homage to the “Bagua”, -the octagon of Taoist cosmology considered to be the cornerstone for happiness. The axis centers an octagon butcher block above the lazy Susan corner, forming a prep area between the cook top and the sink. Continuing through the octagon island, the axis crosses a floor tile design framed in the same shape. The identical red ceiling above the island, floating amidst another silver-sided octagon, invites the flow of Feng-Shui fortune from above. Lattice panels, a sitting Buddha and a rising sun mosaic behind the hood, boost the Asian flavor.
